The Fraunhofer Institute's research portfolio includes manufacturing processes, automation technology, quality technology, company organisation and product development for the business areas of aviation and shipping, rail transport, offshore and steel construction. Due to the constantly growing tasks, the further development of the core competences and the increasing number of employees, it was necessary to enlarge the institute. The new building is already the 4th construction phase. The research building includes office space, laboratories, technical centre, cafeteria and the associated technical areas.
